• Statistical and Genetic  Design of Tandem Axial Flowing Compressor Blades

This book proposes methodologies for the in-depth analysis of the influential geometric parameters of two-dimensional tandem stator sections, of the final stages of a subsonic axial compressor. Investigation on the geometric generation, sensitivity analysis of parameters, and the single-objective hybrid optimization of tandem blades is undertaken. The experiments include on and off-design conditions. Generally, this work may be divided into four major sections. Firstly, the definition of the performance factors and numerical method/validation. Most notable in this section, the parameterization of geometry and project methodology is discussed. Second, a fundamental analysis of the geometric parameters is conducted using the OFAT (One-Factor-at-a-Time) method to approximate the working ranges of each parameter. Afterwards, the Taguchi DOE was undertaken in order to rank the influence of each parameter on performance. It was also used to distinguish negligible factors and to investigate the interaction between the parameters. The fourth phase focused on the optimization of various geometries with the use of differential evolution technique. A regression fit model is achieved which confirmed the Taguchi DOE results as well as the parameterization selection. As a result, the critical region for shape optimization were identified.
